Lightweight Battery Advice

Guys,

I don't know a damn thing about batteries, but I'd like to try a lightweight racing-style in my GT2. I could keep a trickle charger on it and don't need to be able to listen to the stereo with the car off, but I don't know a thing about amps and how many I need to start the car.

If I go with an odessy / braille, etc., what's the lightest battery that will actually run with the car without having to jump start it everytime I crank the car?

I don't need a lot of standby time, but I don't want to have to jumpstart if I leave the door open for 3 minutes.

thanks in advance.

This is the lightest you can get but its expensive...

The Odyssey 925 is resonably priced, weighs 26lbs (1/2 of stock) and does not require much trickling.

Thanks very much. I followed that post but figured I'd try to see if there's a way to accomplish the goal south of $1200.

Looks like there are several "standard" batteries that are $200 or so in the 10 to 15lb range, I just don't know if they would be able to start the car? How many amps do i need to start the car?

Went back to a red top....had an odyssey and it left me stranded a few times....and I was driving the car on two 30 min commutes every day at the time....so who knows....I needed a break. If you race...worth it. If you do HPDE's and run red/black...perhaps....but otherwise not wonderful.

The new super expensive units may be what you need for reliability, but I cannot justify the costs for my meager "having fun" needs.

I had the big odyssey from Rennline, not the smaller, motorcycle sized one...fwiw. For track, tires and skill (seat time) are more important to me at this point. One thing, the proper red top for our cars has the poles reversed....cannot remember the model number, but I found it here and/or on rennlist via search.
