Is there a reason why 90% of turbo's are silver?!
Since I wanted silver there were alot of choices, was a little more picky on the options when I finally found the car, except for the NAV which at the time would of liked to have, but now I am glad I do not have it. So, I got pretty much a 100% custom order in options that I wanted for a CPO
I was also considering the "Speed Yellow" with a few cars, but I told the salesmen that I like to fly "under the radar" color wise, and Porsche=Speed anyway.
Have to admit that the Speed Yellow with the GT2 front bumper looks pretty awesome.

It might relate to the early years of F-1 when each country was assigned a color. Italy was Red, GB was green, France was blue, the USA was white, Belgium was yellow, and Germany was Silver.
Do you really want to send this thread in that direction
I actually shopped for a silver one. The ones around me at the time were black and yellow.
LOVE the silver. It's what I expect a Porsche to look like too... kind of like expecting a Ferarri to be red.
Thankfully, to each his own. The world would be very boring if it was all the same.

You're right. I never thought of it that way. My favorite color for the 996 Turbo is red, but come to think of it silver is the 'flagship' color of Porsche.
I could not find any actual production numbers so did a quick survey based on vehicles on the market through two popular sites. Based on the numbers it may seem to indicate that people hate trying to keep a black car clean. On the other hand, I think that it safe to say that it only seems like 90% are silver.

My survey included all coupes and cabs from 2001 thru 2005 in the sample population. Any idea roughly how many 2004 black X50 cabs were shipped?

This could only be seen as a piece of automotive history and should be posted for all.
Since the X50 was an option, there are no records that I have seen that indicate this.
