Removing Navigation disk reader

I see many people who have removed the NAVI unit and upgraded to a double din head unit in the turbo. Can I remove just the Navigation disk reader, leaving in the stock head unit in place? I understand that this means that the navigation unti will not work (but seeing as I live in TX and have the NY CD, I dont see this as important.....), but will the radio and other functions still work as they are supposed to?

I would love to upgrade the stereo system at great expense, but with my history in P-cars - I only have them for about a year. I do not want to put 2K into the radio when it wil not be around for long.....

So, I would like to pull the Navi reader, just to free up a slot for a storae tray or drink holder.....

Anyone have any knowledge or feedback on this issue? It is possible that everyone who pulled the Navi drive also replaced everything else.....I am hoping for an answer before I try it.

Thanks
