AP TB and T-Plenum Review

So I just completed the TB upgrade and I wanted to give it a quick review.
First off, let’s talk about the results. My car has always been a bit sleepy for a K24/18g and this upgrade made a very noticeable difference. I am spooling several hundred rpms sooner then I was before. The part throttle mid range response is much better before boost starts as well, it feels much meatier.
I can definitely say this is a nice upgrade for those that have all of the “starter” mods like upgraded turbos, intercoolers, injectors, exhaust, ect. I can’t wait to replace my entire stock pipe with some larger diameter kit after seeing what a difference this mod made.
Install over view:
Remove air cleaner box, y-pipe, stock TB, stock T-plenum, and all of the attached vacuum/pressure lines. I dropped the motor a few inches to assist in this.
Lay the new AP parts in place and trim the silicone boots supplied by AP to fit your car. I measured the boot length with the T-plenum, TB and y-pipe positioned temporarily. I cut a new gasket for the AP to TB mate at Dan’s recommendation.
Slide the newly cut AP boots on the AP T-plenum, and wiggle it into place. Reattach the plumbing and run a boost test to the new TB. I used a 3’ rubber reducer from Lowes to mate to my usual 2’ test rig, and the TB. Make sure the TB is open for this .
Re attach the y-pipe and plumbing, and re test for boost leaks from the intake side. Put it all back together, and then reset the TB adaption using method in the manual. I bent the stock y-pipe mounting points a bit to get the bolts to fit.
All in all the job should take 3-5 hours depending on your skills, and if you find any boost leaks and need to reposition the AP boots.
This is just a simple over view, if you need detailed instructions, use the DIY’s available on this site, or pay a professional to do it! This is a nice mod and a pretty darn close to exact fit.
