Warning/Heads-up from police: Several turbos stolen/broken into last few weeks(LA)
I JUST got some updates from the investigators today of Redondo Beach PD regarding the theft of my car, case not broken yet BUT... they told me SEVERAL turbos have been reported stolen or broken into during the last few weeks, all over LA(!).
If this is the same crew knowing these cars and they have a set of DME/immo/key they can just go pick one after the other that's accessible.
Keep a close watch on your cars guys, don't leave keys un-attended in your homes when you're off to work, check function of whatever security/cameras you may have, change your habits a little bit in terms of where you go with it and most of all where you park overnight (just based on my own experience), maybe park your car somewhere where it's very hard to get to etc.
Law enforcement are still working on it.
Knowing there's a "theft spree" going on around LA, that does make one think a little differently regarding who took my car (and others cars).

To bad you cant just rig one of these to go off with a secondary alarm not hooked up through Porsche.

Then all I can say is welcome!

PD said no turbo has been stolen in the area in the last 10 years, and all of a sudden this goes down all over LA.

Thx! I think chances are better if there is a gang stealing these in batches, they gotta stow them away somewhere. A back-end organization stripping down multiple cars.. hm, something should leak out, or at least a ton of parts shold leak out.
The only places to stow a way a ton of parts and sit on it would be ppl that know they have a market and business selling parts... the feds (in case they operate interstate) would be all over those places, and if not the chop shop unit would be. They'll go down eventually. My car? Hopefully sitting unharmed somehwhere with a bunch of other turbos ready for transport somewhere and with some luck PD will catch them before too late.
I was just giving this issue some more thoughts and something struck me as odd. The 996 Turbo is a fairly rare car, relatively speaking. Most owners use them as weekend cars so the odd of just randomly spotting them is low. Unless the perps already have a "hit list" of some sort, as in, they know where the cars would be, I find it hard to fathom that they can just run into so many Turbos. If all these thefts are committed by the same group, would it help to cross reference and see if all these stolen Turbos had anything in common? Perhaps they were all serviced at the same shop, used the same stereo installer, tint shop, etc.
Wouldn't it be a good idea to install LoJack right now if you haven't already? http://www.lojack.com/auto_tracking_device.html
