gearhead-

you can use common sense and take practical advice, or you can go with theoretic advice, derived from porsche's legal department and their risk mitigation practices. IMO.

Of course, the trump card will be "Why be cheap and risk your life and your car just for a few bucks?" Happens every time.

I am not talking about damage due to having the wrong size tires. I am talking about tread wear.

If you cannot figure out tire sizes (there are a good number of great posts here- Joe W is a good poster on this) then stick with the safe choice.

I got you, but I wasn't talking about a street tire. I'm talking about 40" Iroks that come with closer to 11/16" of tread and a worm drive 4:1 limited slip differential. Its only 1 percent per rotation at 1.5", but its enough to wear through the gears.

^^ Got it. I was responding to the OP...wanting to give him concrete info that he could use on his particular situation.

I'd also venture the opinion that temperature and rubber compounds between brands will be more of an issue that minute diameter changes. If you are driving at a critical temp for one of the tire compounds, but not the other, you may find awkward behavior.... damaging to the car? I suspect not, unless you lose it!

I'm running Nittos up front and Hankooks in the rear right now. Been doing this for a year now (been doing it for years on our other cars). Dry or rain, my Turbo hasn't turned into a smashed pumpkin. I'm more worried about the bozos in the SUVs driving around me that don't do regular tire pressure and tread depth inspection on their monster trucks. For street driving, you should be ok.

You guys make it sound like the Turbo is more fragile over tire requirements than a GT-R's transmission, sheesh.

You can run different... like someone has already mentioned (Sizes) check they are similar rolling diameter (think your allowed a max within 4%)... you can also check specifications on Tire manufacturers websites.

Use common sense. Its your car and do what you want. I am sure any reputable brand will do.

I have different manufacturer tires in front vs rear right now. PS2's in front and Nitto Invo's in back. My rims came with PS2's in front, but I just couldn't justifiy paying nearly $1200 shipped for 315/25/19 PS2's in the rear for my 19'' 997tt rims. They've been working fine so far (no tracking currently).
