Higher mileage 996TT?
SubscribeI'm also looking at a high miler (90K) price is 'around' $27K. My education, thanks in large part to this forum, is that this is an expensive car at a cheap price. Do the PPI and get to know the car. It may be pristine but you could drive it out and drop a butterfly valve bolt into the valves 10m down the road! (Happened to my mech's GT3) Then again, there are turbos driving around with 150K with no major (expensive) repairs.
This car has most of the normal issues:
Spoiler u/s
Power steering reservoir
Slight oil leaks
Stab link boots
Dampers
and various trim and minor electrical issues
Spares vary from, easy to get-expensive, to be patient and look around-cheaper. Servicing appears dear but I'm led to believe DIY is not difficult. Reman engine is very expensive but there are many ways to keep the current one on the road unless it's completely lunched.
What's dawned on me is that this is a well informed decision of the heart. You what a Porsche Turbo (who doesn't) just make sure you get the best one you can and live with what she brings you.
Good luck!
(I wonder if this is more for my benefit than for yours ;-)

I'm let to believe that servicing IS difficult, and I believe it. But I'd have the time and the facilities available for as difficult a DIY as I'd need. So for a $20k turbo, I'd be expecting to rebuild it. I don't think it would be that bad, so long as the engine itself was fine, just internal parts needed refreshing.
Has anyone ever tried out the 'Motormeister' service? They send you a rebuilt engine on a pallet and you send back your 'bad' one for ~$7k?
