is your car lowered? i remember when my car was stock, still rubbed in some places.

scope out places you haven't been to, plan the route, and when needed take the maximum angle, optimal is to get the tire nearest to incline/decline to make contact with gradient change before the lip overhangs it.

is there anything wrong with just taking it off (at least until I get another)?

Yes. Without the front lip, the next scuff you get will be on the bumper, which will require a respray and body work.

I wouldn't take it off as it will not look great unless of course its totally trashed and hanging/almost hanging off.
