thanks Darren. i have to admit what I see my 348 spyder is going for it still amazes me what i paid for mine. it all comes down to who you know, researching your purchase first and being at the right place at the right time.

Yeah that is very true. I bought my supra from somone that didnt know that they were worth anything. Its market value is about 30-35k, I found it in newsday for 22k. I was reading the paper around 7am and was at his house with a check at 9am lol. 3 days later he was asking me if I would consider selling it back to him for 26k. He said his phone was ringing off the hook, and he was kicking himself in the *** for selling it. How did you come across your 348?

As you know from many prior experiences, exotic/sports cars are usually a losing proposition. No one likes to lose money and while I've certainly lost some it has been worth every cent. Not everything is measured in absolute dollars and to have been driving what I've got for what it's cost me is a relative bargain.

thx for stating the obvious. One could also buy a 30 yr Porsche and experience no depreciation, probably appreeciation in fact.

I may get hit with depreciation, but at least I am not on a first name basis with my mechanic and the local flatbed driver. I prefer to drive the snot out of my performance cars, not leave them in the garage for fear of mileage-based depreciation or have them sit at the dealer for weeks on end.

Yeah, those 12-cylinder Ferrari guys who bought new never saw absurd depreciation, did they?

Comparing an old car's (like the 348) depreciation to a new car's initial depreciation is silly to begin with.

And geez, what is the world coming to when a 348 owner is talkin' smak on a 911 turbo board? lol Got boost?

i've owned more Porsches than you'll ever dream. btw, why not get rid of your SPEED(joke) yellow tt and porsche wannabe boxster and see what depreciation really means. as far as comparing age of cars your speed yellow tt is probably not worth 10-15 grand more than my 348-and in 2012 (ten yrs) it will probably be worth the same as your boxster.

never mind. maturity level just established. i yield the field.

by the way, i would never question whether a ferrari (esp a post-initial-depreciation ferrari) was a better investment than a new Porsche, but obviously lots of people don't necessarily think buying one is the "better" move for what they want.

was at a ferrari gathering...saw a 348 with the license plate "ID WIN". i wonder how many STIs/Evos/etc showed him the error of this thinking.

If we never sell our TT's then we technically don't lose money, right?

That's right, you only worry about depreciation when it matters.
