Texas Mile trip...

Need advice, going from Florida to Texas Mile and back

To the moderators: I have already posted a similar 3d in the specific forum, but had only 1 answer. I know it is a bit off-topic, so if you would allow this 3d to stay here for a bit I'd be very thankful.

Hi guys,

so I will be in the USA in October, from October 16th to the 8th of November.
I'm going to land at Miami Airport, and will rent a car.

I want to come to the Texas Mile (hoping to meet many of you 6speeders), and then I'll go back to Miami.

Any advices are welcome (on a good route, interesting points, must-see's)?

Thanks.

PS: Do you think it would be insane to drive all the way to Los Angeles and back to Miami?

That will be a very long drive. Just make sure you take I-10 to I-12 back to I-10 unless you want to visit New Orleans. That will save a little time. You might check to see what a Southwest Airlines flight from Ft Lauderdale to Houston Hobby or Corpus Christi would cost. That might be cheaper then the gas.

Wow, do you realize how big Texas is?

Fly to Corpus cristi and rent a car there. Then book a room in Beeville holiday inn express. If there are any rooms left. Have fun.

The gulf coast trip from Florida line to Houston is not a very fun drive I'd get a flight from Florida to tx n drive from there. I have recently driven the route from south tx to Cali it's long n hot but if u get the chance to drive up highway 101/1 in Cali/Oregon you won't be disappointed if you have a sporty car or enjoy the scenery.

The Texas mile is literally in the middle of nowhere many miles from anything exciting except for the event.

Welcome to America. If you take that drive from FLA to TX (12-15hrs 1 way?), you will experience the most boring ride of your life...do yourself a favor and fly. Florida to Cali is 2 to 4 days nonstop driving (depending on speed)...1 way...then you gotta come back... Sounds like you will spend your time in the US driving our crappy roads!!!!

Thanks guys!!!!

You really saved me from a failure... a 4K failure!!!

The fact of the matter is that I'm not used to BIG spaces /distances, so I had no idea of what I was talking about....

I did a little search on the net and I think I will:

stay in Miami for 4/5 days
Fly to Houston hobby and rent a car (stay for the TX mile event)
Fly to Los Angeles and stay there (I'd like to see S. Francisco and Las vegas) for a week or so.

Fly back to Miami to go home.

The overall cost (including car rentals) is lower than driving all the way because I will not have to pay an incredible "drop off" fee for the rental car....

I didn't know that internal flights are so cheap in USA.....

if you use a few of the discount sites like orbitz/expedia , the others youd be surprised at how cheaply you can fly. also southwest and airtran have been bargain companies for a while now.

you can also book the flights as one package different stops and starts sometimes its cheaper that way sometimes its better with alot of one way tickets.

I drove to Tampa and back to get one of my dogs. Not a very scenic drive.

Done it..I found flights for about 110$...a steal if you consider the distance...especially for the Las Vegas-Ft Lauderdale flight...

Just for example, I paid 200€ for Rome-Milan last fall...and it's a 350miles trip...
