IHOP Brakes

I just picked up my new baby...2001 996tt with 20k miles this past weekend and I am already in love. Came over from a corvette, so there is a lot to get used to.

The car stops well, but I have noticed the brakes take a lot pressure/effort compared to the vette; I feel like I'm stepping on a short stack of pancakes. Is this common?

I have boiled the brake fluid in my vette before at the track, so I know what that feels like and thats not it. I plan on putting in DOT 5 motul and bleeding the system anyway, but wanted to know if this is to be expected. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated!

Sounds about right. Will get a little better with a fluid replace, a bunch better with RS-29 pads (if you can stand the squeal), and pretty much completely better with the 6-pot GT3 Upgrade!

Add front GT3 brake ducts too. About $60 (OEM) on Ebay.

That's the feel of OEM brakes...I like them that way (I added steel lines and racing fluid, but the overall feel has not changed much) because I can modulate the braking very well.

the stock brakes were meant to be used with DOT 4.
I wouldn't bother putting DOT 5 on there.

I'd just get some Castrol or Motul RBF600.

These brakes just have a lot more "modulation" than most, ie step hard to stop hard.
