Need Help ASAP!!! Oil Overfilled

Hi,

I read in a post that each tick on the electronic dipstick was 1/2 a quart. I was down to 3 ticks and figured at 12 ticks total I needed 4 quarts of oil. The oil gauge cluster on the instrument panel was about to head into the red area (below the number 2). Seeing as 9 ticks times half a quart (per tick) = 4 quarts, I added 4 quarts into the oil filler. Started the car, no puff of smoke, no knocking or anything. Drove around for 20 miles without any discernable issues. The electronic dipstick reads full and all seems to be fine. Should I go ahead and drain the oil pan and remove around 3-4 quarts and start adding oil all over again?

Please help!

TIA

My oil got overfilled by 6 qts...car was smoking and everything.

Luckily there was no long term damage, due to PCV -0 but it was messy.

In your case, you're just barely over. I had to drain more oil out the following day even after my mechanic drained MOST of the extra out.

Its a pretty simple operation, so I would suggest that you drain a qt out just to be safe...since its so EASY to do.

Also, bear in mind that the electronic gauge does NOT read from Empty to Full...Off my head, the 3i6TT takes 8.5 qts, so even at full empty there's still plenty of oil remaining...

I add oil when my light comes on and tells me it's low. When that happens I add a Quart and that puts the electirc measurement right into the middle.

I know the non-turbos you can take the oil filter off and drain a little bit that way. You might have to do it a couple of times.

Personally

I would drain out some oil, then recheck, and top off if needed.

Not a good idea to leave it this way IMO.

When I get my oil changed at my indy, I always ask them to fill it up till the oil reader shows 1 bar empty, that way I know it was not overfilled.

I would drain some out till the top bar is empty just to be on the safe side.

Drain a quart out and see if you need to refill. Easy job, 10-15min. And you will have a peace of mind.
