ATS/Carbonetics triple disk clutch problem
I need a clutch and trying to decide. I know the tilton is top of the line but I can't swing 6500+ for a clutch. The ATS is pushing it as it is. So would love to hear the outcome. Tim941NYC, is your clutch slipping due to power level or just that it isn't broken in yet?
My old setup was a rs flywheel and sacs 999 (modded by CM) p-plate with a sintered iron disc. It held 860 rwhp until I was trying to slip it on the lunches.. This setup is nice but would like to see a push type slave/ throwout bearing like Tilton's. In fact I think more people would buy it just for ease of install. That is if you do your own work..

I had one 4 years ago.. ran 9s... but it was not easy back then to put it in.. even for Todd at Proto... however, they changed some parts around last year and Im guessing that might have something to do with it... if the pressure plate is too strong then it will not release nor engage... I tried the 2100Kg and could not get it into gear... they usually came with 1100 kg back then,.. then 1350 for a while... all seem to work... but now IDK...

I have done plenty of these.... 3 hours come on. 10 minutes to get on lift and up. 10 more getting of the plastic panels. 25 more remove bracing. 20 more unbolt axles. 5 unhook shift linkage. 10 more getting pole jack and trans jack from across the shop. 10 more front tran mount. 10 more unbolt and remove drive shaft front one (turbo). lower trans get up there and remove starter 10 more, unbolt clutch slave (turbo) 15 more. unbolt cover for pivot shaft remove retaining bolt and clip pop out plastic cap and insert 6mm bolt to remove pivot shaft 30 more. now 5 more to remove the 4 nuts that hold trans to motor pull apart and move out of way. now you are looking at the clutch remove the 9 cap screws that hold the P-plate 5 more. now you have to remove the flywheel yup 9 more in that dumb double square head so no power tool as you can easily strip them 10 more. Now the reinstall. clean end of crankshaft and maybe replace RMS when you are there 10 more. new flywheel torque bolts 9 of them 3 stages and loctight 20 more.
That's over 3 hours and we have not started the reassembly.
I know how you can do it. Rent a C130 and start the job in ny on the plane then fly to cali and technically the job would take no time as because of the time difference
3hrs? Wow not here...
wasn't directed at you but at the maker of the video it was not an educational video by any means and wasn't flashy like a video showing cool parts just wonder what their purpose was making the video.
Robertp,

If I tried to do it it would take 3 days. I took mine to the dealership in Newport Beach (NB) and I paid $2000 with oil changes (tranny and engine) and parts. I remember it only taking 3 hours to complete from a tech that only does clutches. I know NB has high prices but $3000 seems a little bit too high. Best advice I can give is to break the clutch in slowly over 800 miles.
Thank you for the pic! mine is the same..
I know where one of these clutches is for a 350z, its a push type too. I am going to check it out and see it i can use the P-plate and get the tilton slave/throw out bearing.
Drive slow for 800 miles? I cant even think about it! one thing if you broke something and can't drive her, but too have no problem and drive it easy that is really really, hard for me at least. I love the feeling that someone is standing on my chest when I stab the throttle.
