Factory stereo with bluetoorh and ipod
Factory stereo with bluetoorh and ipod
My quotes for a Pioneer z120bt or Kenwood 9960 (both flagships with ipod/phone, bluetooth, and cameras) range around $2500 installed. This bypasses amp and disables the cd changer.
I was reasonably ok with that and am generally only waiting for the right time to do it. I'll add an amp later on as well as speakers/sub if I feel I need it; I mostly want the functionality of bluetooth and ipod right now.
My Porsche mechanic explained to me today that ipod and bluetooth are available for my 2005 TTS as addons to the factory fiberoptic system. This would also sacrifice the cdchanger but would keep the factory head-unit for likely $1500.
He is unsure of what ipod functionality I could expect with the factory 2005 headunit, however. Anyone have any experience with adding these features to the 2005 996 headunit?
I'd like to stay factory for look/theft reasons. On the other hand, If I have to spend $1500 vs $2500 and lose the cd changer either way, it seems reasonable to get the incredible functions of the new flagship headunits.

Goodluck on the factory add on. I think your porsche mechanic is mistaken. I can find no 996 Turbo with a telephone compatible head unit. (I assume you 2005 does NOT have a telephone button on the upper left, correct?)
You CAN add a Dension/Mobridge to get ipod into it, but no phone.

If your '05 Turbo S has the proper head unit. Dension provides the Gateway for Ipod Integration (which will work with any factory head unit) and retains the factory CD changer, as well as an add-on for Bluetooth (that will only work with the proper head unit). The "proper" head unit has a button on it with a phone symbol. This will get the job done, and retain factory appearance, which was important to me. Having said that, the aftermarket units have a much nicer user interface. BUT, I don't like the look of an aftermarket unit in the Porsche. It just doesn't seem to blend well.
I meant to add that you should really contact Eric at Bumperplugs.com. He's a forum sponsor, carries the Dension units, and really knows his stuff.
