Since it's mostly related, if anyone is interested I have a BRAND NEW set of Forgeline GA1-R Open Lug cap wheels in matte bronze finish available for 996 wide body cars. They are literally new in their Forgeline boxes. I bought them for my 996TT but sold the car before installing them and the new owner only wanted the stock turbo twists, so these wheels are available.
Im trying to figure I out the answer to this question myself! My new to me 04 TT X50 came with these 19” Champion RG5’s - which I hear are very light and strong wheel. I am on the fence if I want something a little more special looking!
Thats all correct. Design aside, from a technical standpoint they are forged one-piece wheels which is literally the ultimate construction. 2 and 3 piece wheels, rotary forged and all those other fake forging process are vastly inferior to your current wheels. The RG5 are cnc machined from a single large block of forged aluminum which is more expensive, incredibly light and strong. 2 and 3 piece wheels are constructed with a forged wheel basket then a cnc machined wheel face which is bolted in the wheel basket so you can make different styles easier, its still very good process but not 1 piece. The remainder, rotary forged etc is all basically fake forging and pretty well only slightly better than cast wheels. To be real, even normal cast wheels are fine if your driving on the street and not in any type of serious racing, forged is overkill. Its the best and lightest but over kill for a street car.
Change em out if you want a different style. Maybe knowing they are incredibly strong, expensive and vastly superior to almost anything else you're gonna buy (unless you spend big dollars) may change your mind on changing them.
