Axles, Drag Racing and Torque Converter questions

I am getting my tiptronic build along with the torque converter (through IPT). They are doing a complete overhaul of the transmission (better clutches, more clutches, rebuilt valve body) and a custom torque converter to whatever stall speed I want.

According to them, anything below 4k is fine for daily driving. I currently have alpha 28s that spool up to 1.3 bar by 3300 and 1.7 bar by 3700.

I am sure I will go with bigger turbos in future, but keeping the 28's for now (they have less than 1000 miles on them from switzer).

I was going to get the stall raised to 3500RPM...does anyone have any comments on that? I know there are a few people who have the EVOMS TC.

I am also worried about potential problems with drag racing the car....what other parts should i be thinking about upgrading?

it seems axles are something I should look at....when these break do a lot of things break with it? Should I wait for it to break?

Last dyno my car made a little over 550hp/650tq with cats and I am going catless soon.

Hey, didn't I see this post before? Oh, it was from BHT. I hope your zero interests card can cover all these.

I somewhat remember someone once told me that the axles (or whatever the correct term is) on the Tips are bigger/shorter than 6speeds. If that is true, you should be okay.

Good luck bad!

Thanks! Hopefully IPT does good work...they should be able to offer a fully built transmission with custom torque converter for <$6k with tranny shipping both ways.

Here are pics from an ebay tiptronic axel and 6speed...tiptronic looks much shorter and fatter like you said..

finally the tiptronic has a leg up on something!

What led you to go with IPT? over switzer or akram/proto?

Switzer and akram would both be have been $2-3k higher, especially after a custom torque converter. Switzer would rather have the car, but i just don't want to ship the whole car. It is very nice of them to want the car though, i am sure they would have done a very thorough and great job. Akram would have done good too i am sure, but he is very busy and it would have taken at least 4 weeks even though he is 1 mile from my house.

IPT has a 5 day turn-around. They have built >30 NAG-1, granted most of them have been on mercedes or jeep or Chrystel (same tranny used in lots of cars).
