2002 Turbo Direct Buy Warranty
 
My warranty just expired and have been talking to Direct Buy Warranty about covering my 2002 turbo. Their quotes are very low, even including my wife's 2004 Range Rover. Anyone have experience with them? Please share.

I don't know when I will be selling/trading and want to be covered. Also, it is transferable to new owner which helps sell the car, or I can transfer to the new car. there are good reasons for the warranty. Looking to see if there is anyone who uses them.

I have worked them down to $1800 for years and a $500 gas gift card. This is the elite package, no deductable, tire protection thrown in too. I am working a multiple car discount though. Let me know and I will provide my contact and get an even better deal.

Have you bothered to do a google search on this company?? Aside from the few top hits driven by placement efforts, it seems a LOT of complaints. Ask here and you MAY find one ot two people with a pos or neg experience....but do a google and you find hundreds!

But I guess that people still buy it, thinking 'that won't be me' or 'better than nothing' or 'well maybe it is worth the chance'.

If you do a google search on ANY aftermarket warranty company you will come up with predominantly negative reports. Plus, if your car is modded, don't expect to have much more than the window regulators covered... Just my $.02

From the Direct Buy website for their "Platinum" policy:

WHAT IS NOT COVERED BY THIS CONTRACT: Scheduled Maintenance and recommended service and adjustments. Maintenance services and or parts recommended in the Vehicle Manufacturer’s Maintenance Schedule. Any of the following parts including but not limited to, throttle body, battery, battery cables, shock absorbers, struts, springs, manual transmissions components such as, clutch friction, clutch disc and pressure plate, throw out bearing, pilot bearing, clutch master and slave cylinder, manual and hydraulic linkages; thermostat, hoses, belts, pulleys, brake pads, brake shoes, tune-up parts, safety restraint systems; any and all fluids and reservoirs; fuses; circuit breakers; brake rotors and drums; emission systems; glass, lenses, head lamp and projection lamp assemblies, telephones, television / vcr, electronic and satellite transmitting / receiving devices, sealed beams, light bulbs, weather stripping, trim, moldings, bright metal, chrome, upholstery, carpet , zippers, cup holders, dash pad and vents, seat frame, paint, outside ornamentation, inside and outside door handles, mirrors, hinges, lift gate and hood supports, hubcaps/wheel covers, bumpers, body sheet metal and panels, body parts, frame, structural body parts, vinyl convertible tops, tires, wheels/rims, speakers, wiring.

What's left? Common and expensive failures include the coolant connections failing on top of the engine, not covered under "any and all fluids and reservoirs". That pretty much covers the clutch accumulator and slave cylinder and master cylinder and all brake components and the coolant reservoir. I'm trying to think of what IS covered under this Platinum warranty.

And expect the "not limited to" phrase to bite you as well.

And then there's:
H. Any known or unknown pre-existing conditions with Your vehicle will result in a claim denial.

An "unknown" pre-existing condition. WOW! Just WOW! What wouldn't be an "unknown pre-existing condition"?

Run away.

Yes, I did a google search and found that the company had 23 complaints last year. 23 out of how many thousands of clients? Supposedly all 23 were settled and the very least the customer's money was refunded. I am hoping someone with a turbo has experience with them.

Find out their labor reimbursement / hour. Some places have limits.

Go for it. 23 out of 'thousands' sound good, especially since every complaint is posted on-line and shows up in every google search. And everyone that doesn't get resolved they 'at least' get money refund??? What do you have to lose? great deal, safe.

Does the car get inspected by someone from the company before coverage starts or is there a waiting period of some sort?

No the car doesn't get inspected from what I have been told. There is a 30 day wait period from the time you purchase just in case there is an existing issue.
