Open Trailer Question

What is downside for buying a 16' open trailer? Doesn't it ample room to tow a 911 with tire rack and other supplies?

If so, what is the advantage of an 18' open trailer, other than hauling more stuff? TIA.

I assume you are talking actual bed length and not trailer length.

I have towed 996TT's on my 16' bed without any issues. The one thing a longer bed allows for is usually more convienent tie down locations. 16' does make it a little more difficult for tie down solutions, but definietly doable (my front tie down points are out on the dovetail). IMHO, unless you are crammed for storage space, go with the 18' bed. On a 16' bed, you will need to have the tire rack raised so you can get the car underneath it.

Doc,

Correct, it is bed length.

Many thanks for your clear reply. Is there a disadvantage with a 16' bed having a tire rack raised for long drives to the track? For example, heavy wind stability.

I need to do some more measurements on my property to increase size for another two feet.

About all you are going to notice is a slight decrease in gas mileage. Depending on the trailer and where your axles are set, if you tow "forward", then you really don't need the rack super high, just enough to get the nose of the car under. If you tow "backwards", then it would have to be a little higher to clear the tail.

I am also in the market for a trailer and new to this. When you say 18' bed is better than 16' bed, the length of the 18' bed/trailer you are referring to would not include the length for a dovetail, correct?
