Strange noise

Strange noise
Some times when I start the car (a few times, not always and from a short time) I hear a strange noise from the engine, like a vacuum, I can not describe it. Any advice?
Thanks!

If it is for sure the pump no worries. It's an emission device to capture exhaust fumes on cold fire up before the catalysts warm up.

The engine controller turns on the secondary air injection pump upon a cold engine start. This pump can sound like a hoover (vacuum cleaner) running in the distance. The air pump runs from seconds to maybe a minute depending upon ambient air temp engine temp etc.
This noise is normal but it should have been present from the 1st day you got the car, assuming temps where you are are not high enough the secondary air injection pump is switched on. Many 'new' car owners hear this for the first time upon the 1st cold day in the fall after having driven the car all summer without hearing the noise.

Macster.

How long have you owned the car? Has it done this from the outset or just started? Did it start after some mod?
