I tried DPE wheels once on an SL500 I owned a few years back...the wheels looked great but the seemingly cheap plastic centering rings didn't fit and the replacements didn't seem to work either causing horrendous wobbling and instability issues at high speed.

I generally stick with CCW, Fikse, BBS, and older Forgeline and Kinesis (not the new ones, the ones prior to both of these companies being bought out) and those types of wheel makers.

DPE is made specifically to a customer's car spec. I have never seen any DPE wheels using centering rings. Unless your set has been manufactured for a different car and then been fitted onto yours, I don't see how this story makes sense.

To OP: The wheels look beautiful on your car!

the wheels were a set that came off a customer car which DPE then refinished, they looked very nice but did not work well at all for me. I was told there would be no issues, even with the cheap plastic centering rings DPE provided. I spent tons of time and money trying to get this sorted and going from shop to shop getting them rebalanced and so forth. It was a nightmare.

Peter with all due respect I am not making things up...I have a history with you guys, James knows me well as he did a very nice job supplying me with parts for my SL55 build during 2010...I am not new to modding, this is not my first rodeo.

How long ago did you purchase the wheels...?
Were the wheels you bought 3-4 years old... like my S-20's......?

I have two sets of their wheels although the first set(3-4 years old) did use plastic rings and worked GREAT,no vibrations at all!...the second set I have is made to fit!
The rings are only there to center the wheels around the hub and once the lugs are bolted on they really do nothing else.My plastic rings fit so well that they stayed in the wheel when pulling the wheels off,so I cannot see how they would lead to a wobble issue! Maybe you had some other issue.......balancing or a slightly bent wheel?

Wrong lug nuts/bolts causes wobbing as well, sometimes aftermarket wheels will not work with OEM lugs. I had the same issue with my MB, changed to conical seat lugs and wobbling stopped.

several years ago like 3-4 like you... I got them checked and balanced over 6 times by several shops...spent a ton of time and money...wanted to return the wheels and get my money back DPE would only give me a partial discount on a new set of wheels or a partial refund...the wheels were "supposedly" fine...the cheapy centering rings had to be swapped out for the correct ones, still had issues, the whole experience was a friggin nightmare.

got a set of CCW for the same car...PERFECT.

that was not the issue, I am aware of the seating config on MB lugnuts...some wheels seat with a conical chamfer (like aftermarket) others use a rounded seat (like OEM)

guys I am not new to wheels or modding I've been at this for years with several cars...both on and off the track (race cars and street cars), when a wheel works I know how it feels....when something is wrong I can ussually tell what it is through process of deduction.

Got it. That explains it. If it was a used set from another car, I could see how it could go wrong.

I heard good things about DPE, a buddy of mine has them on his CL55.... However; I am partial to the hub centric rings, I will not run wheels with them either hence the reason I am selling my forgestars. I would prefer running a hub centric spacer to those rings any day, and feel much more comfortable doing so if I had to.

Amen brotha ...no more cheapo plastic non-fitting rings for me either!

It gave my car a different look and satisfied with the DPE company.... Hoping to do a photo shoot tomorrow and post up! Thanks everyone for the kind words!!!
