It's a fast car. Things can go wrong. Things can go wrong in slow cars too, but I would think hard before putting too youthful of a driver w/o serious driving education and proven good judgement in a car like that. If an accident happens - and your daughter is in the car with him, you'll regret it for the rest of your life.

Your wife: 100% you should let her drive it whenever she wants. Wives/gfs/fiances who drive Porsches are hot. Usually they also mostly get into fender benders or scratch bumpers. No big deal really.

So it comes down to "car" vs "human". The car is just a car. The people inside it are the ones I would be concerned to protect.

Maybe you get a OBD flash tune for the car with say 250hp?

Consider the liability and effect on others if he does hit someone/something and cause a serious or fatal accident - either the occupants or innocent bystander. I believe you need to determine how trustworthy and responsible the party is that would be driving your vehicle - and weigh your decision based on the risk to yourself and others.

Inexperienced and irresponsible drivers can easily get in trouble with a high performance vehicle as it overpowers their abilities.

Recall the story of the 18 yo that got an M5 for his graduation present. One night he and 3 of his buddies got onto a private airport runway just to see how fast the car would go. They drove off the end of the runway hit a tree which cut the car completely in half killing everyone inside. In Calif it is againt the law for someone under 18 to drive after 11pm or have any other occupants under 18 in the car at any time. In San Diego at least every other month and alway after 11pm, some 16-17yo with a car full of friends wraps it around a tree killing most if not all the occupants. Do the police bother to pull cars over full of kids obviously under 18 after 11pm to check for curfew violations. NO. They say they have no probable cause. They don't seem to need probable cause for any other traffic violations. Great law, lazy cops.

turbo_banker is infamous around these parts
I got my first proper performance car at 21, the 420bhp V8 M3 and I span that the day I got it... (wet roads, first time driving a RWD car, etc) I got lucky and it was no big deal and I just had to replace the undertray and get the tracking done. Could easily have been worse though since I span across the central reservation, so it did teach me a lesson.

Since then I had the M3 and the 996 Turbo as well as occasional use of other cars - RS5, Evo X, etc - and I have never come close to an accident, though I can't help but go WOT - especially the 911T - whenever there is a nice long straight or a tunnel haha.

Still I would certainly not trust any of my male-friends to take out any of the cars i've owned as I know they would go way too fast and probably have an accident.

If you can't buy it, you shouldn't drive it. If you want to motivate him, give him 5 minutes behind the wheel with you in the car. Otherwise, it is a dis-service to him IMHO.
