Engine Removal

I would like to know if anyone can outline the steps for engine removal. I am mostly interested in knowing what and how many ancillary components, wires, hoses, etc., need to be disconnected to allow the engine to be dropped. In addition, I was looking at the engine to transmission connection and the amount of space behind the engine. I would assume the engine needs to be pushed rearwards prior to being lowered out of the car in order to clear the transmission input shaft. That said, it seems like there is not much space to move it rearwards.

Please feel free to be as detailed as possible.

Stephen had a great thread on dismantling/rebuilding a 996TT motor... maybe this will help.

It should be doable if you have a lift, the engine jack with adapters, and shop manuals (and are driven to do it). The shop manual shows removing the engine and trans as a unit. Even if you have a lift the cost of the engine jack and the adapter plates for the jack may be cost prohibitive. There also looks like lots of places to make expensive mistakes.
Pull:
Air cleaner
Int hoses
Y pipe
A/C comp
Hydraulic pump (special tool to RR lines)
Throttle body
wiring harness plugs
O2 sensor plugs
Sway bar
crossmember
halfshafts
reverse light plug
trans support
front driveshaft cardon shaft
shift cables
starter
turbo intake pipes
clutch pressure line
drain coolant
coolant hoses

place lift

undo trans support and engine mounts
lower 10 cm
undo tank vent
brake vac line
fuel lines
intake air distributor (stays in car)
lower eng/trans unit out of car

If you are doing the clutch just pull the tranny.
