Used GT2 prices?

Just wondering what 996 GT2s are really going for these days. Not what we
wish they were selling for if we owned one but what they are actually selling
for. Is there that big a difference in the 2001-2003 and the 2004-05 price
wise?

Shopping, maybe, between GT2 and 07ish GT3.

mostly the 02 to 03 available ... in the mid to high 70s upto mid to high 80s & some in the 90s ... 04 - 05 model years are more ...of course things like mods, mileage, and service history have a lot to do with pricing as do factory or motorsport options and Euro spec cars in the domestic market.

Prices are still all over the place. I think they are starting to settle down a bit.

Some of the confusion is that a lot of dealers represent TTs as GT2s, and one has to dig through so many ads to separate the misrepresented TTs to figure out which cars are actually GT2s and then determine asking prices for real GT2s. If you look at the quick and easy stats it appears that GT2 prices are a lot lower than they actually are.

You also have the "bargain" GT2s, most of which have very unpleasant history. You cannot be too careful to make sure that pristine GT2 a dealer is selling hasn't spent time on it's head or with major portions of itself torn off. A lot of talentness guys bought these when they were newish as they just had to have the latest thing. Many discovered that the total lack of granny aids allowed them to display their lack of skill. Once put back together they became "low miles. pristine. all original." So, in the words of former President Regan "Trust BUT verify".

Their place in history has yet to be decided. The GT3s have a clear relation to motorsport and that is always good for resale value. But it wasn't until magazine after magazine started writing up how the original '73 RS car were THE enthusiast car of all that RS values started really jumping. So it will probably take the enthusiast writers waxing poetic to put these where they should be. I question this happening, as not that many of the writers have the skills necessary to use these weapons.

On the other hand, more and more enthusiasts are buying and using these as was originally intended. At some point I suspect it will be more widely understood that these may be the last super performance Porsche that is entirely controlled by the driver and fantastic to drive... as long as you have the skill. Once this happens these beasts may gain traction in the market and the prices may finally reflect the considerable difference in price and rarity compared to a mere GT3. [I couldn't resist adding "mere" to that. :-> I actually like the GT3s ..a lot. But they are just playful puppy dogs compared to the wild beast GT2s.]

02-03 Gt2s have been going for around 80k depending on miles, condition, color, options, and mods. There's a couple very nice 02s for high 70s right now. 04s seem to be around mid 90s but Autotrader is tough to judge.

Actually, Autotrader has two 05 Gt2s listed. I thought there were only two imported for 05 but ones 119k and the others 159k with 72 miles . The 72 mile car was some guy that got caught with fraud I think.

I've had my seal gray 03 Gt2 w/ full carbon pkg for about a year now and I bought it with 1700 miles. I paid mid 80s for it.

996 gt2 when out was one of the most expensive exotic/supercar of the past decade...many of them were damaged by owners and a few of them are 'zzz' code cars which are ultra rare...also a lot of buyers paid a premium much over msrp to have them...they won't go lower than 75k (with the exception of a few dropped prices) and in fact are already increasing in value because being rare and not up for sale often...they are truly the last of the pure driver porsche 911 turboed cars ...the new gt2 has pasm, psm and is much closer to the turbo than the 996 and 99t varients. which were the models responsible for the moniker "widowmaker"...
