gt3 shift ****

I just got a 996tt x50 last week. I ordered a 997 gt3 alcantara shift **** right away because I don't like the shape of the 996 shifter. I did this without thinking of the obvious difference in the boots of the 996 vs 997. I was considering trying to swap out the plastic piece that the bottom of the boot is connected to and glue/staple the new ****/boot to the 996 plastic piece that snaps into the console. Has anyone done this? Maybe a better suggestion? I really like the 997 gt3 ****. Thanks.

edit - I forgot to say that just taking a quick look and not snapping out the 996 boot yet...it appears the 997 boot may not have enough material in the front section (like on top of 3rd gear) to cover the necessary area.

It is one piece but all that holds the leather to the shift **** is a zip tie. Flip it over, cut the zip tie and you can remove the **** by itself.
