K16 billet set up
#16
I have clients on pump gas with 18gs running 1.2 bar on stock clutches... and they hold up for some time... it also depends on driver and miles on clutch...
you read posts.. most of which are misguided...
in your case I would just run the billet.... with stock WGs.... boost only 1 bar.. maybe peak 1.1.... thats super conservative... none of us can tell you 100% that you are OK to run 1.3 bar( as you would like Im sure) on pump gas and expect ZERO trannie issues...
for example.... is it normal for me( my car is well over 1000 rwhp) to still have a healthy trannie? NO its not... yet it is....
If you want zero issue then do your tranny.... you cant pass on the blame, if it goes, on a entry level turbo kit....

I would run less boost... most guys that blew them ran 1.4 or 1.3 bar on 18g or A28s....
run stock Wgs ... less TQ......
just my opinion... or if you feeling lucky go for the upgraded Wgs...
what octane you on?

OP, all about the tuning, you can run 28s with proper tuning and never come anywhere near to unsafe zone (lower boost, lower torque) or you can run a billet 16 at 1.3 bar and eventually the tranny may go (ask my buddy above me how long these tips last for)
speak to tuners, have not personally worked with mark but I have heard absolutely nothing except praises.

[quote=MY996TT;3246584]I have been running ballbearing GT28s with other goodies for 3 years... still going (knocking on woods). My car runs 1.3 and peaks 1.4; I second the "it's all about the tune".
Hi,EPL/Tony gave me a tune on 93 pump gas of 1.4 with peaks of 1.5 in cooler temps,,,He must think that those boost levels are safe to do that???.....

John,
I was just making the point that with a right tune, a Tip can run 1.3 with longevity.

[quote=MY996TT;3246641]Sorry,,,I also meant that I agree with you,,,and hope our tuners got it down pat......lol......

tony would more than likely say that its not as much as the boost level as all the other parameters that are getting changed, and that tuned right the car can run 1.3-.4 no problem. Thats what I would think anyway

[quote=Lennon31987;3246757]Understood! There are many parameters and considerations.

The higher the boost the less longevity; I run my car @ 1.0 with upgraded wg. the ecu will let it go to 1.1-1.2 with the right temp. I am no expert here, but running any TT with 1.3-higher boost without ALL supporting internals is like running a car with one quart of oil, it's going to run, yes, but for how long? as for the tip question, leave the car alone or buy a 6 speed; once you get bitten by the mod bug, you'll put all this $ into a car that will not have the trans to support, so one day you will buy a 6 speed and start all over again.. that's just my 10 cents ... have fun...
