Bought a 996. To flash or not to flash
Bought a 996. To flash or not to flash
Ok, so I have a 2003 x50 with 75k miles that I just recently bought about 6 months ago. The dealer did not think there was a flash put on the car, but I am not so sure as this car runs VERY well.
Right now all it has is a 70mm exhaust and I was door to door with a C5 Z06 that just put 460 to the wheels to about 160mph. (I can post the footage, but not sure if that is allowed here)
During the run I noticed I was at 1bar flickering to 1.1 bar during the run and this was on 91 octane.
My question is, with this information, would there be any reason to pay for a flash on this car as it sits?
I plan on doing 18g wheel upgrades, injectors, intercoolers in the next 6 months or so.
Opinions are appreciated.

You have a flash already. Stock X50 will put down 0.8 bar. Flashed X50 will put down 1.1 bar which is what you are seeing. have fun adding the 18G package. That will give you quite a bit more power.
I have a X50 too,with europipe exhaust and GIAC flash.My max boost is 1,1.
Now I'm going with evoms. The kit included evoms v-flow intake, wastegates 1,0 bar,FPR 0,5,f-pipe,blow valves, lightweight underdrive power pulley and new fuel pump from 996 gt2.We expect to see 610ps....on 100ron unleaded.

Your car is flashed....
18g conversion, 5r bar FPR minimum, ICs would be nice... and SMILE..
good luck

1.3 bar you're looking at 95 octane and wastegates.
Thanks for all of the replies, I am going to go do some more research and see if I can talk to the previous owner, find out who flashed it.
I guess it might be an older flash as I cannot brake boost

are you talking about launch control?
Say you're going from a 40 roll and you want to build boost to get a good jump on say a third honk while in mexico.
Essentially you are pressing the gas and holding the brake to keep you at 40mph which builds boost, once you are ready to go, you release the brake.

If I were to mod again. I wouldn't flash the car first. Exhaust if you want more power. If not, do some suspension work.
I can name a few things you can get for a total of $1300 bucks ( what a flash would cost you ) that would bring more enjoyment.

! I have Tony's package (EPL) and get 1.1 with my X50. I'll see a 1.2 flicker once in a blue moon.
