I have an 03 tt. The sound of my oem stereo is ok for now, but I really cant stand the way it operates with the **** and the push button selector. Also the navigation is horrific even though it was probably state of the art in 02 ( I doubt it though. I think i had a tom tom in 02 that was much easier to operate and did not require a cd).
Can i fit any double din stereo in place of the oem stereo or do i need to look for a special fit stereo? Will I be able to find one with the same or more power as the oem stereo? I am partial to pioneer products as i have them in my other 2 vehicles.

Also, I wont use the cd storage tray. Is there a plain old storage compartment I can fit in there? I thought i read somewhere that someone swapped theirs out with something off ebay. I have searched ebay and 6SO, but havent come up with anything.

Your local Porsche dealership will sell you a nice, empty storage space for about $40. Pop out out and pop in new in about 30 seconds. I did a quick search and came up with the following part numbers (hopefully, they're still valid).

Upper tray 996-552-253-01
Lower tray 996-552-243-01

HI,I agree...I think Porsche should have put better stereos/GPS in these Turbos...I have a few gremlins with mine in the past and everyone Porsche replaced in the past still had the same gremlins in them,as it still does to this day....
The Porsche customer service finally told me way back when,,that this is a performance car designed with the highest tech in the driving area and that the gremlins in the radio were livable/normal??,,.REALLY,,I do have the whole history and file #,if there are any Porsche reps reading this.....My 1999 C2 and 2002 C2 stereos did not have gremlins at all and they were cheaper cars..lol...
Also ,I did take my CD tray out and put the 2002 storage tray in its place.....

 

I have Pioneer Avic HD1BT in my 996tt and it is great. Hard drive, navigation, bluetooth, ipod cable, dvd player, mp3 player, vehicle dynamics mode.
