High emissions...

Just failed the MOT (annual car test in UK) on emissions.

Carbon Monoxide levels too high:

Fast Idle Test

Engine Speed: 2350-2650rpm
CO: Max allowed 0.20% ACTUAL 0.60% FAIL
HC: Max allowed 200ppm ACTUAL 36ppm PASS
LAMBDA Range allowed 0.97-1.03 ACTUAL 1.00 PASS

Fast Idle Test 2

Engine Speed: 2350-2650rpm
CO: Max allowed 0.20% ACTUAL 0.61% FAIL
HC: Max allowed 200ppm ACTUAL 50ppm PASS
LAMBDA Range allowed 0.97-1.03 ACTUAL 1.00 PASS

Natural Idle Test

Engine speed 650-830rpm
CO Max Allowed 0.30% ACTUAL 0.53 FAIL

Engine was warm from 30 mins idling.

Any suggestions? Car was unused for a while with battery disconnected but has done a couple of hundred miles since.

Will taking the car in piping hot from a good hard drive help much?

What effect would the addition of 10% methanol make to the carbon monoxide levels?

Bob,

This is probably the wrong site to ask that. You should try PistonHeads.com and also RennTech.org.
Who's tune are you running, what cats do you have fitted ?? I recon you must have the car tuned, is that correct?
PM me if you don't want to answer in public.
Frank
