Is Sunroof/moonroof delete a good thing?

The 996 I found doesn't have moonroof...IDK, but was curious if this was a good or bad thing in terms of options.

Here is a conversation had about it in the past. I think it depends on the person if its a + or -

I'd prefer a delete as I never run it open. (My 2004 has a solid panel.) A glass roof, on the other hand, would be useful to look for aerial speed aircraft.

It is a positive if you track (the assembly adds weight up high).

I love the sunroof. Good compromise between the open air feel of a convertible and the rigidity and lighter weight of having a roof. I even looked into the glass Targa, but that's not available in a turbo. Of course, it helps to be where you can take advantage of an open roof 80-90% of the year :).

so would it be possible to switch out the solid roof for glass, or am i running into the problem of the extra track needed for the interior shade to operate independently of the glass, betcha...

Unless I'm operating mine wrong, there are no separate shade and glass part parts. It's one piece, the roof simply opens to open sky above.

so is there no inner shade to keep out the sun when you want?

I ordered my '02 Turbo with the "sunroof delete" option. Not having the sunroof adds an additional 1" or so of headroom. Additionally, I like the look of the roof without the black cutout outline of the sunroof. I have another car that is a convertible, and compared to effect of driving top down in that car the tiny sunroof on the 911 seemed like a bad tease.

I think the sunroof delete option is a + if you are into the track/racing aspect of the car. In my 01 audi s4 I removed the sunroof completely and added a carbon fiber plug by fiber images. If you don't track or race your car I think the sunroof is great as it gives the car a grand touring feel...

Or if you need the headroom because of your height (without a helmet).

I think the 1" of extra headroom is the key! I am 6'3" and won't comfortably fit in a sunroof model (with the way the roof line runs, tilting the seat back does no good). So, I was forced to get a cab, which really sucks in the OC! hilarioushilarioushilarious
