Navigation Questions for a 2004

Guys, i bought a 996 turbo cab a few months ago and my navigation cd slot would start clicking every time i got into the car. I finally pulled the unit out and cleaned the optic lense and re-installed which seems to have fixed that problem.

With that said the car was delivered with a PCM DVD-Navigation North American DVD.........it says 04-2005 and the numbers on the right are as follows:-

997.642.257.02
7L5.919.859.AC

the navigation part of the PCM just says starting navigation but never gets anywhere so i have no choice but to assume its cd based and not dvd.......anyone able to verify this and let me know what i should be replacing the dvd with to get this car complete??

I went to porsche and they were clueless......told me to buy a completely new system....

Yeah, it's CD based. I've got the full set, I can't remember, 3-5 cds, something like that anyway. Anyhow, I could burn you one for your region if you want to try, for testing purposes only ;-)

Your car is running the PCMII 2.0 nav system. If you'd like, you can go to the dealer and they can upgrade your software to the 3.0 system for free. This will allow you to run the newer 08.2004 nav CDs that are much more updated. The part for the Nav CD set is:

000.044.901.21

Navigation update, (USA,Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico).

The set can be bought at Sunset Porsche for $325, but I got my set used off of ebay for about 1/2 that.

Good luck!

Yep, what Colorado said, my discs (there's 3) say "Compatible with PCM Software Version 3.0 or higher (Push MAIN and TRIP)"

Anyway, the burned ones work fine in my nav (maybe takes a second or two longer to load??). Guess I'll make a back up set. LOL

As I'm SURE you've heard, any Garmin or TomTom will kill this Nav for speed and ease of use. But it is nice to have in your car for emergencies.

Check your PM.
