help with racing tehcnique please

while watching a GT3 cup race in the weekend, one of the drivers was warming up his tyres by somehow locking his front wheels but doing a burnout with his backwheels, anyone know how he did this? while moving obviously.

thanx

Doesn't sound like a technique that i would be doing to warm up tires, it doesn't make sense, you would get a flatspot...

vtgts300kw 04-20-2005 04:11 AM

he did actually flat spot the tyres during the weekend but he doesnt usually. because the tyres rotate very slightly (usually) which doesnt cause the flaat spotting.

anyone know? even if he does flat spot the tyres, doesnt really matter. i just want to knwo how he does it....

Double clutch whilst accelerating, drop the clutch and hold the brake.

im an idiot..... can u plz explain in a way a new zealander would understand?

FAT-911 04-20-2005 04:58 AM

That's OK i'm an ozzie mate...Basically it's like doing a brake job except your rolling, remember the car has to have some serious power to do this, I wouldn't advise doing it either.

cheers. slowly getting my head around it

would have had to pay the cost of a house for your turbo.... sucks been down this part of th world doesnt it

i suspect the cup car would have sufficent power and tourqe to do it "safely"

He probably also has the brake bias set to full front so in effect he has no rear brakes. That is what I have done in the past. Track only.

gotta love the mk1. what class do you run that in?
have you looked into a cupcar?

congratulations, looks absolutly beautiful.

that could be the case. fairly risky proposition on the track he was racing. top speed run down to a 40kmh turn......

Thanks Mr. HSV,

Currently runs in Sport Production cars, cupcar maybe next year, we'll see how it goes.

Thanks for the comments

He probably has a lline lock switch for the front brakes. Very common addon for drag racers.

Easy...

Come to a complete stop or very slow roll.
Engage first gear.
Rev the engine.
Release clutch (quickly)

Once the tires are spinning, use your left foot to lock or feather the brakes.

No special equipment needed. Just your left foot.

he was probably going at about 25mph. must be more to it than that surely..... because he said nobody else has seemed to have picked up on the technique.

read an article about an awe tunned turbo in a magazing in the store. great write up. congrats.
