996turbo is infamous around these parts
Thumbs up Variable geometry turbos?

This is news to me.....the turbo continually adjust the vanes on the compressor wheel to get maximum flow. Audi is using this technology in Europe. Wonder if the next generation turbo will have this tech.? Sounds promising.

It's a well-known option, documented in texts about
supercharging for years, but it has never been used
in Porsche street turbos yet. Garrett, IHI, and Mitsubishi
all have had turbos with variable vane technology.

Actually, these are designed to reduce lag using additional vanes in the turbine housing - nothing to do with flow through the compressor side. The idea has been around for years and used in specialist turbo applications. It is really just finding it's use in mainstream vehicles. Watch this space to see if the 997 TT uses this technology!
