The Z06, not even close.

If you can't go fast in a track prepped C5 Z06, you're not going to be fast in anything.

Simple and cheap to maintain.

Later, Steve

+1 Z06. There is just something wrong with turning a cabriolet into a gutted track car :P

For a dedicated track car I'd go with the ZO6.

Z06 would be my vote as well. Pick one up for under $20k, you can't go wrong.

Honestly, it depends on what level you plan on building the car. If you are talking about a few bolt-ons the C5Z is hands down winner.

However, the Viper has the most potential, it's significantly stronger built, I would choose the Viper because it has the strongest motor for building a road race vehicle and unless you plan to keep it stock the C5 Z06 motor is limited to about high 400's WHP unless you build a stroker. However the early SRT-10's have some oiling issues so that needs to be addressed, I don't think it's that expensive.

TT Cab is a NO NO.

vbzatty is infamous around these parts
Actually the Viper has the worst motor for mods. Starting with the 2004 gen 3 the dropped the forged rods and pistons. They also have small ring lands. All 3 are already modded to hell. The 996tt has Tial 3076's, the Viper a Paxton s/c, and the Vette twin turbos with lower compression truck heads. I agree the Vette is the way to go. I'll post pics as it progresses!

Also think about this...

Viper = Expensive to maintain, expensive to fix
Porsche = Expensive to maintain, expensive to fix, and a cab
Corvette = cheap to maintain, relatively inexpensive to fix

The corvette is the best choice of the 3.

The GT3 would be slower than a modded C5 Z06.

I love the GT3, RS, Cup, and RSR on track (having driven all four) but make no mistake the torque on the vette is hard to beat!

Unless your looking for a modded highway killer I suggest you start looking for all motor Z06's with suspension. You can only use so much horsepower on a road race track.

With track tires, you can use more than you might think. My 600hp Supra was never a problem. It wouldn't have been much faster with another 100hp, but it could have been used.

Later, Steve
