TurboCab is infamous around these parts
considering

I am thinking about a Tip. Traffic is almost always heavy where I live in Southern California and at my age, I simply avoid driving a manual.
I have never tracked, and never intend to, so a Tip seems like the best idea to really enjoy the car.

Any thoughts?

I hear ya on the traffic thing...same reason why I bought an auto trans (Acura TL type-S). Traffic in SoCal just got to me driving stick after 20+ years.

Why not just keep the pcar for weekend and occasional drives. I'm glad I kept mine. Good luck.

I love my Tip. I bought my Tip for a different reason... Thinking that my wife would drive the car. She had never driven the car for almost four years, but I think I made the right decision. The car is fun to drive but without the hardwork.

Thanks for the replies. Now I need to find someone who wants a manual who has a car as well maintained as mine

That's funny, since I also bought the automatic thinking that my wife would drive it -- and she never has in almost 6 years . Two years after I bought it, she bought a MB SL550! I still like it, but the automatic does accentuate turbo lag.

Actually I wanted a Tip but couldn't find what I wanted in one in a years time so I went with a manual. No regrets thus far in a bit over 3k miles. My previous 996 was a manual as well, also a Cab, had it for 7 years. We still have a Boxster Tip that's been around for 10 years, so I have experience with both.

I think Porsche did either a terrific or horrible job with the manual clutch depending upon your perspective. There is absolutely no feel as to the friction point and if your hearing is bad like mine, the only way you can preceive impending engagement is let it out slowly until the car starts to move forward.

I removed the booster spring on the clutch pedal of my n/a 996 and it gave back a lot of feel and made the car feel like it should. Maybe I'll try this on the Turbo and I think I'll eventually convert it to the GT2 style that Porsche should have done in the first place.

I'm not sure what mods you have but the car can be very quick and responsive with the right mods. But of course, everything comes with a price.

Do you love the car that much? I'll probably get flak for this from some of the tippers on the forum, but for me if it came down to traffic and commuting being too much to drive a manual I probably wouldn't want to do that commute in a Porsche Turbo at all. It just seems too much of a compromise to me.
