Shoot Out Still Possible On: Urgent I need Info...
Talked to Dan briefly today. He's going to have a meeting with the E-I-C later today about it. They have an event this weekend but by early next week we should know more...
Just keepin' ya informed. So far no word from Watt on the possibility of doing an HBO special: "Tuner Taxicab Confessions" or G-String Tuners.

PS Anyone know if Heinz at Gemballa is down too? I know Ken talks to him....
What about "EVO magazine" I would think this kind of shootout is exactly their cup of tea. Although they are in England so I do not know how easy that would be. Any of you who have read EVO can see that this kind of thing is what they love. I don't know just a suggestion as I do not know anyone at Evo mag and can be of no help soliciting their mag. Maybe someone else knows someone at EVO?

Alex, I know the editor of Eurortuner Magazine. He is totally into cars and attended last years Gumball. He did a feature on my M5 2 years ago and recently did one on Gumball. If you are looking for another mag let me know. (CEC Wheels I believe has a good relationship with the Editor)
thanks,

If my car is ready I'm up for it as well. For sure I won't have the straight line power like the rest of you however, the car should handle really well so, it might be interesting to see how it stands up time wise against the rest of you at the track(s). I have a couple good friends at European Car as well I will contact about this. Just as a suggestion there is a pretty cool format for doing shoot outs in a Germany mag I'm sure many of you have seen called "Auto Motor und Sport." Each year they test all the European turners against each other to see who has the fastest car. Something along those lines might be kinda cool and add a "International" Flare to it at the same time.
I know some really good shops in So, Cal that would be up for helping with the Dyno runs. The first one that comes to mind has the Dyno Pak set up. For those of you not familiar with that brand, they are very trick. Instead of using a roll that tends to be messy and burns up tires, these eliminate all that. With the Dyno Pak units you remove the wheels and bolt individual units right to your hubs!!! This means yes, if you are AWD you bolt one to EACH of the four hubs and the car floats there total suspended by the units and there is no disconnecting of drive lines!!! The best part is, it's the most repeatable dyno available. Plus, it can be done right at the TRACK!
The shoot out sounds like a great idea, I'm in one way or another ...... If you want to use pro drivers, I also know many that would be happy to help. Most are top drivers and have finish high in or won the Porsche Cup before and have lots of Porsche experience... just don't have it Daytona 24 weekend.
Final Note: The choice of test will be critical. Over the years I've done a fair amount of Pro racing and as a result I've been hired to work for some companies that do nothing but extensive testing. To name a couple I've driven for AMCI that use to do almost all the major testing for all brands of cars. I've done testing for Infinity and Subaru as well. I've also done ride and drives for several other manufactures. I tell you this not to impress you but, to tell you I know first hand what happens when you do ture 0 to 60 test and G force type testing. In order to get proper and accurate results, the average car gets the living **** beat out it. Lots of clutches go away, axles fail, brakes get used up ... it's not always a pretty site. I've only see one car get a dented in the quarter panel (that driver was sent home) however, I'll never forget at another test when Trans Am driver Stu Hayner looking at me <head shaking and snickering> and said "God, I feel sorry for who ever ends up with this pile." Don't get me wrong, it's not that he was trying to abuse the car, Stu is about smooth and easy on cars as any race drive gets, that's why I use his name. He was just doing what was needed to get accurate results. Understand, doing this is really really hard on cars. After a full test it's very likely that many components will need to be replaced on the car.

Thanks for the tip on this. I believe Eurotuner is actually owned by Primedia who also owns European Car, right? Either way, I think that it would be a good idea to keep this in mind. I have some more news that occured today, which is that I contacted Betty at Panorama to see if they would be interested in also covering the event. I let her know that European Car was also on our radar so that would mean both of them hopefully covering it.
I'm supposed to hear back next week from Dan at European Car so and if we get a green light then cool, if not then let's try your route

Great response from you guys so far (PMs, Emails and calls). I think we're going to have MORE than enough cars to cover this in whatever shape it takes.

It's a great mag but darned hard to get a hold of anyone
Hey Cary do you know Dan? That was my contact for the proposal. They have some kind of event going on this weekend but after that is over, we'll find out their level of interest.
Pro drivers would be essential so if you have the hook ups we're all ears

As I said yesterday...We're IN. Cary's points were in sync with my original thoughts about this type of "confrontation". Do you guys know what YOUR car will go through....I do and it won't be a pretty site. My guy doesn't care as long as his car comes out on top! HIGH STAKES POKER....right here on 6speed! SADLY, whomever comes out with a better "hand" will be subjected to other players crying foul. That's a guarantee....havingfunblowingupturbostakechances-Mark@F.M

I emailed Evo Mag to gauge their interest. I doubt anything will come of it, but, it is worth a try. I will let you know if I receive a response.

I spoke with Mitch Rossi who was in charge of that 911 project car that was a 2 year in the making project and had monthly updates. He said he'd be in for writing the article. I'll dig a little further
