To be honest I did not have many issues with the RS4 over my 9 years of ownership. Biggest issues were gearbox synchros, cracked manifolds and worn camshafts and lifters.

But it wasn't by any means taken to any extreme in mods - hybrid K04s, gutted pre-cats, middle silencer removed, reflashed, Bosch 040 pump and that's it.

There are a few here but most people choose to build them from imported OEM parts. Crazy thing is that it probably cost nearly as much to build a "accurate" RS4 out of a S4 as it would be to buy and import. Federalizing it is another matter all together.....


Here's my S4 converted to RS4 spec....

 

My RS4 was a great all around car. Very fast but also capable of taking 4 people with some luggage or 2 people and two mountain bikes in the back. Also very good in winter.

996tt is a different animal. Way more sporty, way faster, more extreme. Better steering feedback, better position inside (always felt I was sitting ON the RS4 rather than inside), better in the corners, more planted. But all this for the price of less room for people and luggage, no driving in winter etc.

What also makes them different is that for RS4 to be noticed and appreciated, you needed a real petrol head. 911 gets noticed by everyone.

Great B5 you have there! A lot of work to get full widebody conversion made on the S4.

Onna side note, my RS4 was bought by my American friend and he is probably taking it back to USA with him so there will be one more B5 RS4 there!!
