transmission rebuild! now paranoid
so 2nd gear popped out 2x in past month..brought my car to regular tuner and they took a look not good! The strange thing is most all my racing starts in 3rd gear up, I never slam shift, I was always paranoid about clutch.
Anyways now im shifting sometimes from 1st to 3rd even after new tranny. Is this bad? They did a lo tof "shimming" or whatever and the car shifts are really smooth from gear to gear, no more notchy stuff going on.
I dont want this to happen to anyone! Im just guessing age of car and tq will do this.
Pix attached for your empathy

The first time the box was rebuilt did they just re dog the factory gear? I don't remember so many missing dogs as shown in your third pic. I would beat the dogs off that box all day long every time I got in her. lol but for real you are most likely lugging the hell out of your motor and trans doing the 1st-3rd up shift. That is bad on bearing my friend.

And with Porsche now supporting the gearbox and 2nd gear idlers available for around $300 new, why would anyone even consider re-*******?

thnx tim, I will not do that 1-3 shift!! they bought new parts (rings, sleeve, guiding, synchros, washers) as with the age of tranny.
Ive been driving these cars for 10 years, and this pop out happened after 3 years of my driving, so I think its attributable to age and trq.
Either way glad the fix is done and hopeful I wont revisit this part in another 5+ years

Question for the experts: in my older Porsches, I was always told to keep the rpm's above 3,000, and that is what I do in the 996TT. At what rpm do you consider that it is lugging the engine and tranny?
