996tt X50 or 997tt? Opinions please...
Good deal on the 997 but some "flags"
- Brake pads on PCCB; I have 37k on my 2003, they look virtually new. How do the rotors look($$)? Don't underestimate the price on the pads either($$) wear like this is from the track
- General wear and tear; 60k service needed, look for documentation of previous maintenance. For a hard driven car I'd be concerned. If I were the seller, I'd do the service, "restore" the interior (dealers pay $2 - 300 to pretty up), add a chin spoiler and ask 10k more - why not?
Don't worry about a CPO, focus on condition and how it's been treated.

Here's one I think maybe a better choice on paper

If this isn't a scam it's probably worth the phone call:

Wow, for a second I thought I was in the 997TT forum?
Depends on what you want; it boils down to looks and interior.
Performance wise 996TT-X50 has the edge everywhere (lighter, less understeer) but straight line speed (where 10 car lengths from 0-top speed goes to the 997TT)
I would pick a mint 996TT XP50 over 997TT any day. I would then flash, fit exhaust and change shocks and stabilisers – I would stop there as in the real-world the achieved power and handling upgrade is beyond fully utilisable.
997TT was first move towards GT, 991 might just as well be Panamera and went totally GT, and 993TT was just a bit too raw and too eighties for me – interior wise. 996TT slots bang in the middle and is therefore the car of my choice. Not everyone wants newest!
Cheap 997TT means only one thing - not cared for!

Personally speaking... I would be leary of any 911 turbo of any variant that is cheap and is a deal. These cars were never cheap when they were new and hold their value for a reason. If you want something special, expect to pay for it; getting a "deal" on a 996tt 997tt means you're likely getting a lot of problems too.

If I were you, and you were going to choose a 996 over the 997, I would prefer the Turbo S. Simply because it was the last X50. (and I have one for Sale
). But no Seriously, I purchased mine for that reason. Just moving to an Aston being the reason for sale, and I do not use it much.

Haved had both in the last 3 years. Recent purchased the 997tt. 997 all the way. The main issue is the over rev's. Correct me if i am wrong guys , 1,2,3 are acceptable. 4's in the over revs are questionable. Keep in mind if they hit the 4's they moved past the rev limiter. This means it was mis-shift/downshift in a bad way. By the way , even with the low miles the 996 is way rich on price and for the money you will love the 997.
The range 4 over rev has me a bit spooked, too. The DME report didn't include the duration, just that there was "Range 4 over rev". I'm not sure it's possible to get that high into the RPM range without a serious misshift at WOT. Certainly wouldn't happen during daily driving.
Wish I could find the previous owner's contact info

If I was in the market this is the one I would get. I know yellow is polarizing but I just love the combo with all the yellow accents.

Between these two cars I would get the 996tt. If the 997tt had 30k miles and was in awesome shape for 70-75k then I would choose that one. I personally wouldn't buy the cheapest 997tt i could find just to move up to a 997. If you can afford a nice 997tt then absolutely you should get one over a 996tt. I would buy a nice car, not somebody's mule who they barely cared about.
