Turbo install Help

Well, the millon dollar question for me is how do you remove the oil feed line from the turbos?

I was helping a friend swap turbos and having done this a thousand times on Asian imports I figured no problem.

Well It went smooth until I went to remove the oil feed lines. I didn't want to damage them so we called it quits and I figured I'd ask you guys what the trick is.

If anyone could help I'd greatly apreat it. Thank you for your time.

Gary

Gary was actually helping me intalling the turbos.
We got to the point where the oil feed line on the top was the only thing holds the turbo.

Since we rented the lift from a shop so we had to put everything back on and called it quits. We ended up spending whole day and had nothing done except two hoses.

We will find another day work on it but will need your advise on removing turbos as well as hoses.

Thank you very much!

From the shop manual. I have not done this . You should probably use tubing wrenches on the oil lines.

1)remove rear bumper cover
2)remove center heat shield and intercooler assembly and side heat shield(s)
3)undo upper oil pipe at the uppermost connection while counterholding the larger connection below with an "open ring wrench" (tubing wrench)
4)remove upper turbo support nut/bolt
5)pull vac line
6)undo 2 oil pipes on oil container
7)pull pressure pipe from turbo (hose clamp)
8)undo 4 turbo flange to cat nuts
9)undo header from head
10)remove turbo with header

Install (use new seals/metal gaskets)

1)fit turbo to header
2install header to head, torque in an inner to outer pattern to 18 ft lbs then to 25 ft lbs
3)tighten 4 flange to cat nuts
4)tighten 2 oil tank lines 22 ft lb
5)attach upper turbo support then attach upper oil line 15 ft lb
6)install side heat shields
7)install pressure pipe with hose clamp
8)install intercooler 17 ft lb
9)tighten sheetmetal nuts on side heat shields
10)install intercooler hoses , "snap" into place
11)carry out "oil level and tightness test"
It might be a good idea to crank the car with the fuel pump relay pulled to oil the turbos before you start the engine.

You need to clear everything out of the way from the wheel well side. Remove the metal shield over the turbo and go in at the line from the well side. You will need to hold the large portion (check valve) while turning the little line out of there. Make sure you remove the mount nut and bolt out of the way as well. You will need that in order to swing the head of the wrench through there.

Probably a good idea to change the plugs while you're in there.

Whatever you do to get r done, Counter hold the check valve and allways use tubing wrenches on tubing, get new sealing rings/washers and gaskets. Also prelube the turbos before the install, and I reccomend installing the hardware only finger tight until you have everything in place, position the muffler and start your way out from the headers tightening the hardware as you go. Also I reccomend installing the headers then mounting the turbos. Use a light film of Loctite 574 ("Agent Orange" sealant) on the sealing plug/washer on the turbo sump, and on the threads of the scavenge lines where they go into the sump. Hope this helps.
