also thought that if you get non R lips that may not look as big.
the overall size of the car is pretty much the same as the 996. why don't you turbo dudes put 20s then on your 996 turbo?
and just because the factory comes out with 19s doesn't mean it's by default better than say 18s. check the bmw m3 e46 model. it simply drives that much better on 18 wheels though 19s look killer.
and to compare the 911 to the CGT is... well just plain stupid. dimensions, looks, design, performance.. everything is at an uber-level on the CGT.

My summer fling with 19" wheels totally put me off of them. The car looked great but I wasn't happy with the way that the car seemed to handle. Maybe it was because of the Conti's, they aren't the world's grippiest tires, but in my book, any tire that makes the stock P-zeros look good is a disappointment.
Benjamin Choi: Bringing up the 19/20 setup on the CGT was purposeful to counterpoint your comment of "19s are bad enough for performance on the 911. 20s are even worse." The ultimate no-compromise factory-built Porsche sports large wheels, and it does not suffer from utilizing the wheel sizes in question. And yes, everything was done to an "uber level", and I'd presume that with the Enzo as the target, nothing was left to chance. Porsche engineers have historically challenged the standards of what we consumers think is possible (tuners too obviously), and it's evident from performance of the new models that 19 and 20 inch wheels sizes are not hampering performance. Everyone's entitled to their opinion of course, however "just plain stupid" you may deem it to be.
The Cargraphic GT3 RSC won the '05 Tuner GP overall on 19's. The new 911's are offered w/19s and are turning out some impressive performances. New Ruf cars are sporting 19/20 setups as Gary mentioned.
It would be interesting to compare a given test car in performance with 18's, 19's, 20's to see what the effects are, and at what point performance declines (and why). In question is mass location, rotational inertia and tire design and performance characteristics in each size. I'd like to see how handling and braking is affected in each case, and how suspension must be adjusted and optimized to work in concert with a given wheel/tire setup, etc. If anyone becomes aware of such a test, please post a link--should make for some very good reading and debate. Thanks!
