Fuel gauge issue after new sender install

I have searched, and a couple of threads described when sender is replaced, as long as the battery was disconnected, the reset is easy, fill car up and pull battery for 10 minutes. I tried this, and I'm always full, so the sender isn't reading correctly to the dashboard. Am I stuck? Do I have to take car to dealership and have the procedure done, where they empty tank to reset? Should I try and fill her and reset again?
Any ideas.
TIA
Stephen

Stephen, check two things. If I remember right there is a little arrow on the whole unit that points to a notch on tank. then tighten the ring. two make sure the mess of hoses in the tank are clear of the float. good luck

Update....bingo sender float was caught. Reseated and I had about 6 drops of gas in tank. Happy now I can know what fuel is in tank.
