One item on the PPI was that the front outer CV boots have a small leak. I will obviously get these replaced but I was wondering how critical that is? I will probably only get to it sometime in August but would still like to take the car on a couple of drives in the meantime. There is also a tiny leak on the left side of the front differential; you can only tell by looking at it though; no fluid on the ground.

The longer you drive with the CV boot bad, the greater the chances that you'll damage the hardware, and that hardware isn't cheap. Do you feel lucky? YMMV but I'd say take care of it soon or penny saved, pound foolish. You can't tell how long its been driven like that before the PPI. If you wait till you can hear noise, it is likely too late! No fluid might also mean there isn't much grease left. Safe best just fix it.

 

Thanks! I know the 60k mi maintenance was done at a dealership in Oct '11. I'll have a look on the invoice to see if there is any mention of it.

Either way, I can park it for a month no problem. The convenience of an extra vehicle

Is there any way to check the fluid level in the front diff btw? They should've changed it out at 60k; suprised the dealership didn't report anything. Then again, the PPI is there to nitpick...

 

I just checked the maintenance records and the owner had a full multi-point inspection done in Oct 2011 at the dealership. Interesting they did not find anything.

Anyway, that gives me some more peace of mind that it can't be anything huge (yet).
