Pretty happy with GIAC. Car pulls like a ***** when I floor it and turbos are spooled.

edit: I just realized after reading about all the different tuners and octane maps that since the car was flashed by the previous owner in Cali, I wonder if GIAC has a 91 octane map vs a 93 or if it is a universal. Time to email GIAC I guess.

i spoke to gmg racing who uses giac tunes and asked that very question. the reply was they use a 91 oct tune and its fine to run 93 . not exactly precise but as they dont have 93 they dont tune for it

Nick,

You are going to really love the suspension when you lap the lake or head into the mountains out there!

Update on this: I spoke with Austin @ GIAC. He confirmed to me they do have a 93 file. Maybe they made one after you talked to GMG, dunno, but I'm getting my car reflashed w/ the 93 file in a few weeks at AWE in Philly. They charge a 57.50 labor fee but otherwise there's no extra charge to switch to a 93 octane file. Cheers.

interesting. i spoke with fabryce at gmg about the 91 oct tune just last week. he was the person who said they didnt have a 93 tune and that the 91 would be fine. im currently looking at another gmg 996 turbo which is a stage 3 build from gmg with a 91 tune. i live in tn so i may have to speak with giac or find another shop to tune this car should i decide to purchase it

pulled this off the gmg website. it shows the 93 oct tune is for the gt/2 or 2005 turbo s. these are the giac tunes they load for the 996 turbo. looks like maybe the k24 gets the 93 tune and the k16 get 91? arent the x50 and the gt/2 and the 05 turbo s all the same turbo?

No idea, but I'll ask AWE when I go in for the reflash to see what they think about the 93 vs 91 files.

He's helped many of us without regard for $, I doubt it was a matter of trust or protecting the public; he wasn't a board sponsor..

I have EPL on all 3 of my cars

S4
911
Cayenne

Tony makes the tunes daily drive-able and smooth with a heavy dash of beast in them.

I have never been satisfied with any tune (with my S4s) till I found EPL.

First the OP was asking for "factual" support. I assume this means data? Second your reply is absolutely idiotic....like this board requires credentials to be part of it...LOL.

The reason it is difficult to post factual support is it requires measurement, an understanding of measurement error and a data collection plan which takes into account multiple variables. I don't think very many on this board are equipped with such knowledge. So unfortunately the OP will be stuck with anecdotal evidence (of which there are quite a few strong feelings).

I haven't used any of these tuners but inherited my car with a Gemballa tune. Since I live just a few miles from UMW I contacted Kevin and asked him a few questions about tuning and what his tune might do for me.

If the guy wanted to make a sale, all he had to do was say "hey, my tune is substantially better than the Gemballa tune". Had he told me that, I probably would have booked time, paid the money, and had the re-flash done.

Instead, this is what he told me. "I have familiarity with the Gemballa tune and it's pretty conservative. However, considering your current mods I'd just recommend that you stick with it until you're ready to modify the car a bit further. At that point I'd be more than happy to help you with a re-flash".

He didn't know me from anyone (still doesn't), but I really got a great feel from my interactions with him. Again, I have yet to give the guy any money at all...but I can assure you that he's at the top of my list for guys who I'd like to chat with to re-flash my own car eventually.

I'm only posting this to protest the comment above about "I'm sure there was a reason he's not on the board" since my own experience is quite positive. Thanks.

GIAC has options for:

Stock
Pump 91 or 93 (you specify when you buy the file)
Race 100 Octane
Valet Mode (won't go fast at all)
Engine Kill kill mode (engine won't start).

You can use software, an android app or a GIAC handheld switcher. You can switch modes while driving (except to engine kill).

If your looking for a box tune they are all OK....if you want it done right, pick a tuner that is closest to you and have them tune your car. Good luck!
