creaking front suspension
 

Anybody ever have their front end sound like an old farm truck?
When my suspension gets warmed up (after driving a while) and I go over a speed bump or into a driveway it sounds like my car has old school leaf spring suspension in the front.
It's annoying and embarrassing. And when the car sits for a while the sound is gone until it gets warm again.
I have stock struts with h+r lowering springs. When the sound is happening there is no disurnable difference in ride or performance of the suspension, just this stupid creaking.
Before I pull the struts out I'm hoping to hear if anybody has suffered the same problem and how you fixed it. Cause pulling struts sucks.

same setup, same issue. there's just no getting around creaking lowering springs. it is embarassing, agreed. mine "clicks" even on hard turns while parking, from binding. at least i don't need to explain why valet's can't ( touch ) park it. i gave up on a fix, and don't need coilovers now. that's the fix, i'm afraid. i would also love to hear of a solution while keeping the h&r's.

There has to be something wrong though. I had these same springs on another turbo with no issues.
I personally installed these springs three years ago and this problem just came up now.
I'm sure there's a fix.

Is there something that can be greased?

If you get the noise to reproduce, get out and push down on the front fenders to jounce the suspension (dont dent them) and see if it still happens. If it makes the "getting busy in the back seat :)" squeaking/creaking sound, its going to most likely be the front lower control arms. They are pricey!!! the rubber control arm busings wear over time and can make that sound. Note: there are two control arms in the front, you need the one with the ball joint. the other will rattle when going over slightly bumpy roads at slow speeds.

Also front sway bar busings can make a similar sound. before you buy anything it might not hurt to remove them and grease them. See how that works. Good luck and please post your fix.

it can also be the top mounts. does it creak when you turn the wheel?

I have it too...PSS9 here.

gonna try and take front wheels off today for a look see. i think i may have that AND binding. two issues, two separate creaks and clicks. sheesh.

I've been told by an alignment shop that if your suspension sounds like a croaking frog when going over speed bumps you need to check your drop links

I had same issue. I ended up having to change my Axle's, droplinks, bushings and entire H&R spring setup. Notice is gone and car rides like a dream now. My issue was extreme though. I would suggest you start with droplinks. They are known to go bad. If it persists, change the springs. They may have collapsed like mine did.

Mine does it when you compress the suspension, AND when you turn the wheel. Mine comes from the driver's side only. I am planning to replace the LCA's and the shock bearing between the upper mount and spring. I understand that the shock bearing is a likely culprit if the noise comes from turning, and the LCA if the noise comes from compression. The shock bearing is relatively inexpensive, so why not replace it just in case...

The "boinging" and "popping" can be cured with the installation of thrust washer bearings between the spring and spring perch.

I had a similar issue, the drop links were not fully torqued down

+1 swaybar drop links.

Get some graphite grease/spray with a thin thin pipe and get it in under the robber boots at the ends of the drop links, spray plenty. Then massage the droplink ends for a good while to distribute the grease.

Not uncommon.

dumb question, but hoping to get under it soon as i have similar issues with the creaks.. can silicone lube be used in lieu of graphite lube? or not good on rubber?
