ok went ton the track saturday. 11.7 @ 122 mph. no way to get under a 1.9 60 ft. if i launched it hard the awd would just wheel hop like crazy thru 1st. thought i would break something. if i baby it off the line car would bog down. pasm on car nosedives on the launch. pasm off car is wheelhopping and sideways thru the gears. street tires ps2 in 19" i know crap setup. ideas? if i drop the front shaft for the track with the open diff make it even harder to launch? lsd is couple months off

Welcome to the fun world of trying to drag race a 996 turbo. It will be much better RWD, but not much. You risk breaking your axles (if yours are stock) if you get too aggressive. 3-4k and slide it out as fast as you can...

tried every variation of launches from 2000 rpm to 5000 rpm. the awd just kills the car with wheelhop. thats what brakes axles not spin. i ran 10 passes sat . never more than a 1.9 60 ft. my noral 60 ft is a 1.6 to 1.7 on my amg. im going to drop the driveshaft today and see what diff i feel upfront. if it seems to launch better then ill remove the whole front asembly.
i have 3 weeks of racing left before the track closes then its a 3 hr drive to the closest track

Guys, I think sometimes ignorance can be bliss at the drag strip. I've launched my K16 equipped car at the track exactly two times (with no previous launch experience whatsoever in a 996TT) and netted a 1.989 60 foot time on my first launch and a 1.755 60 foot time on my second. I'm not an accomplished drag racer at all, and hadn't been down the track in about 5 years.

This was on normal 18" street tires, no burnout, no pre-heated front diff, or special tire pressure management, and definitely no intimate knowledge about what I was doing (relative to any other car). My car is stock clutch equipped. I wonder how much my K16s aid in getting a good start relative to K24s? Anyway, I guess I'll try not to over-think this stuff since what I did worked just fine, and I always marvel that folks have so many problems putting down good short times in these cars. I want to say I launched at about 3000 RPM too, so the end result surprised me!

You should be significantly faster then me. I'd launch her at 4k and slip and dump the clutch on the launch, you'll get a 1.8 -1.7 easily...I can do it all day long.

from your sig your leaving the pasm on? with it off its another ball game. with it on car dumps the front end on launch by cutting power when it starts to spin. lost .3 on a pasm on run
actually our mods are fairly close.

I leave the line quicker and smoother when I do my own method over the launch control ,[4,000rpm]in my program..
PSM off.
Tire pressure on street 40 cold rear and 30 cold front.
Bring the Revs up to 3600 to 4000 RPM.
Feel for the grab point in my clutch and
As I release the clutch out smoothly from that point as it is grabbing
I am putting the pedal to the metal
Practice makes Perfect..Good Luck
This way works for me and my set-up..

I mistakably left it on and did 6 passes, on the 7th pass I realized (finally) that I should have turned it off and went to make a pass and then as soon as I shifted from 3rd-4th...I got massive clutch slip.

So I'm almost certain that I can get a 11.5 out of her with a new clutch and the same launch technique (weathered drag racer btw). I'll visit the track again in a few weeks...

I would say that you must practice as much as you can so you can blend with the car while in the track...like a six sense.... I know... I can do 10's, but I'll still going to the track and practice and practice....Most of the time I rev's up to 2.5K releasing the clutch smoothly 'til the car start to roll then pedal to the metal. Here is a recent vid from past weekend.

Nice Videos
If I may add something to you leaving the line at your 2500RPM, I think that is to low AND bescause your best run was your last run in which you had your RPM higher then the rest > higher then 2500RPM when you left..

I noticed too...exactly why he bogs at the line, which is also killing his ET.
