Removing '01 996tt cigarette lighter?

Does anyone have a good guide for this? I tried checking out the renntech guide but for some reason, it won't let me register to the forum. It never sends out the confirmation email.

I plugged in my phone charger and now the socket doesn't work, I also hate how loosely the appliance fits as well! Thanks ahead of time

It's a three step process. First remove the illumination portion containing the light bulb and the securing bracket, two pieces either both green or as mine was the bulb portion green and the support piece black. These are removed by prying under them with a small screw driver.
Next the center portion, aluminum and white plastic piece. This is held in position by two small tabs located in the inside of the lighter, the location where the actual lighter would be placed. There are small clear plastic tabs about 1/4" wide by 1/8" high that require pressure applied to them, one at a time while pushing on the white portion forcing the center or metal piece out of the assy. This takes some time, a little on one side then a little on the other till it releases. After this the clear section remains.
The clear section is again held by two clear plastic raised tabs that when depressed release the clear portion of the assy. And there you have it.

Remember, the cig light adapter in some European cars (such as this one) have larger cig lighter openings then American or Japanese cars. I just went out and bought a new charger. If the adapter doesn't work, check the fuse (I managed to blow the fuse recently messing around with it).

I bought it a few weeks ago, thought I'd do a simple DIY during this storm

Thanks! That's exactly what I needed. I'll let you know how it goes.

What's the best way to remove the trim piece around the cigarette lighter? I can fit a tiny screwdriver directly under it from the bottom, but I don't want to commit to that and possibly snap it or something.

I wrapped a cloth around a 3" spackle knife and used that to pry it off

From which angle? Like from the bottom, left side, etc.

start at the bottom and pull outward with moderate force. it will sound like your trashing it but its like the door handles snap clips in place. work your way upward and around
