Just saw a show on TV called "Top Gear"
and one of the segments was a BMW 645, a C2 911 (996), and a Jaguar XKR racing in this place called "Pendine Sands" in Wales. The Pendine Sands (googling found it's an old place for land speed records) appears to be this really large area immediately inland from the sandy beach/water that is flat, sandy and wet with what looks like about 1-3" of water. The sand is hard enough to support the cars without them bogging down.
Before racing the three drivers were sliding the cars sideways for long stretches, throwing water/sand "rooster tails" behind them. The actual race was anticlimactic and didn't appear to be the main focus of the segment (I think the Jaguar won). It was the slaloming and sliding, and it looked like a HUGE amount of fun!
The show also had a segment on a test drive of the Koenigsegg CCR on airport runways. The driver's previous test drive speed record at this particular place was 170mph in a Pagani Zonda. Well, he made 174mph in the Koenigsegg. The driver was really impressed with it, and looked like a really awesome machine!

Thanks! I have a bunch of car shows on Tivo Season Pass, but didn't have that one. I had recorded "Fifth Gear's Greatest Cars in the World", but didn't have a Season Pass to "Fifth Gear".
These are my current Season Passes:
Motorweek
Autoweek (recently cancelled?)
Life in the fast lane with Steve Natt
Car and Driver Television
Sports Car Revolution
Top Gear
Autophiles
Fifth Gear (now)
Any others that any of you like?

Tiff Nedel (sp?) on Fifth Gear is the best. Definately a "must see". Every show he rings the living snot out of the car he's testing. It's Great!
My season pass on Tivo is:
Fifth Gear
Top Gear (added it last week)
Car and Driver Television
Motorweek
I need to look at the shows you listed. Thanks for the ideas!

I also have separate Wishlists (by keyword) that pick any shows with the words "Porsche", "Ferrari", or "Lamborghini" in the titles or show summaries. I just check the wishlist programs every week or so and don't have them to automatically record, 'cause sometimes the same shows get picked out over and over (like the 1978 movie, "Thank God It's Friday"). However, the Porsche keyword is also how I found Top Gear.
Edited: Just searching under "all shows" alphabetically starting with "auto", I found a few more: "AutoManiac" and "Automobiles" on the History Channel (Ch. 269 on DirecTV), "AutomotiveVision.tv" on a CBS cable channel at 3:35am, and Autoline Detroit on the Speed Channel (Ch. 607).
Of course, you can just scan down the Speed Channel to find a lot of shows that you might want to record, including tons of races from Formula 1 to Nascar.
Tivo rocks!
