high beam

assume we all have bi-xenon, why the high beam is not as white as low beam?
is it for safety reason for other driver?

Have a look at this site "Highlights of the Porsche 996 Turbo" : http://leo.worldonline.es/jaumepor/a...new911tur1.htm

Quote: "The bi-xenon headlights featured exclusively on the 911 Turbo develop the low and high beam in one single gas discharge bulb, with light being projected on to the road ahead through a 70 mm glass lens. A moving cover provides the different distribution of light for the low and high beams, maintaining the bright/dark barrier when lifted, as prescribed by law for the low beam head-lights. When lowered, on the other hand, the cover opens up a greater path of illumination for the high beam. The mechanical process of lowering and lifting the cover takes place within fractions of a second, meaning that the bi-xenon headlights may also be used with the usual flasher function."

I've owned a number of cars with "bi-xenon"...CL 55, 745Li, SL 55, but none are like the TT. The TT bi-xenon is best one I've seen. The flicker speed is really fast...really gets those left lane hogs out of the way

yea, i remember reading an article on how porsche develop their head light. quiet amazing...

i was replacing the fog light bulbs last week. thought taking out the entire light out is really scary idea, but it turn out piece of cake. what a design...

nothing really like this i guess!

I just looked at my 996TT headlights. The xenon bulb does heve a high and low beam. The halogen bulb below the xenon also comes on with the high beams. High beam is a mix of xenon and halogen light. When you flash your lights in the daytime only the halogen bulb comes on.

Halogen bulb

The halogen bulb is there for high beam flash so that it comes on right away!
