Long term use of an aftermarket battery???

I’m new to this, so please forgive me….

Once again, my ’02 996TT OEM battery is dead. I was away for over 3 weeks and the 2 year old MOLL battery is not holding a charge now. I got the car in ’05 and always used a Porsche battery, which never last beyond 3 years. I have a dilemma, buy another MOLL battery or purchase an aftermarket (Interstate, OPTIMA, or Odyssey) with the hope that it will not damage my vehicle’s electronics?
I’m worried about the long term use of an aftermarket battery. Has anyone here used an Interstate, OPTIMA, or Odyssey battery over 2 or 3 years? If so, did the battery do any damage to your vehicle?
Thank you for any insight you can provide me!

Thank you EBWerks!
After the holidays, I'm going to remove the MOLL battery. I'll decide on an OPTIMA or Odyssey battery, but I'm not going back to a P battery. Thanks!

you need a battery tender if the car isn't driven weekly. the battery will last 2x longer.

get a battery from walmart. they are lighter then the Moll and is around $75. fits right in without any mod, which the optima requires.

You're right; I just bought a Schumacher Automatic Battery Charger XC10 from Walmart. But I'm not sure about the quality of a car battery from Walmart????? I'm concern about the long term use of such a battery in my car, and the possible damage such a battery may cause. I believe the 996TT is built to exact specifications; it’s not rugged like an AK47!
Thank you djantlive!

I have Walmart batteries in my cars, including the 996T. The oldest one is about 3 years. A few car battery manufacturers (Johnson Control, Exide, etc) supply most of the store/brands. Consumer Report did some testing a few years ago which you may want to look up.

Thank you for your post. I was looking for someone who has years of experience with their non-OEM battery. Three years with a Walmart battery and no problems is enough for me to take a closer look at them. I did see car batteries when I purchase my battery charger. Thanks again!
