I found a set of exhaust for my 996tt on craigslist, but the seller is in another state. We have agreed on a price and I need to pay the seller. The seller requested that I pay with paypal.
Any suggestions to protect myself as the buyer? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

 

Paypal/CC is fine if anything goes wrong you can contact your cc company and they will take care of it...

Use credit card to pay Paypal !! It gives you 2 layers of protection.
If Paypal do not do enough-- your credit card company can reverse on Paypal.
Now-- that does get action !!!

also paypal has 3% fees. he may want you to add the fees so he gets what he needs for the sale

We can help, but better define "a set of exhaust" please that's pretty broad!

 

The added protection you'll want to use (for next time) is that when you pay via PayPal you can opt to pay via your debit account or a credit account. Always choose to pay via the credit card based account. Be forewarned that PayPal defaults to the debit account, so just get used to switching the payment type while you're entering the payment details.

When you pay via CC, you have all the normal protection that goes along with it. So, that is the best peace of mind you're going to get. Good luck finding another exhaust soon!

 

Make sure, using paypal the seller includes a full and complete description of the item, how it will be shipped etc... and does NOT ask you to call it a "gift." If it is classified as a gift transaction you may have no recourse if they fraud you. Couple posts ive read say beware on that gift crap happening. Get a copy of paypal terms and protection on the website to read over.

 

two things: you could as was ask for a copy of his DL.. if he says no, i'd question why.. he can text it..two: if you have one, use an American Express with pay pal... you always have to click on what payment you want; it will always use your bank...

 

I would never give a buyer a copy of my drivers license.

 

Drivers license are public record.. anyone can find it as long as they know your name.

 

Paypal is the worst company on earth I hope it goes down in flames.... $0.02

I've been satisfied with them, fwiw. Don't like the 3% usury, but...

 

It was fabspeed gen3 maxflo for $500 in CA. It looks like the same seller has a y pipe and intercoolers for $800 (reduced from $1000 a few days ago).
